Thanking Our Friends

.

The Shavers Fork is one of four rivers featured in Southern Living Favorites, Spring 2002 issue.  The article mentions the Shavers Fork Coalition and quotes SFC board member and founder Zach Henderson.

Thanks! To the West Virginia Central Railroad Operators John and Kathy Smith and safety inspector Keith Metheny for transporting spruce seedlings and volunteer tree-planters on the railroad.

Thanks! To the WVU Extension Service for invaluable technical assistance, office space, and especially for long hours creating a power point presentation.

Thanks! To Davis & Elkins College for providing meeting rooms to the Upper Shavers Fork Partners.

Thanks! To Snowshoe Mountain Resort for donating spruce seedlings to on-going riparian restoration efforts.

Voices of the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike

Kudos to the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike Alliance for releasing the first of four CD’s of oral history and music about the history of the Turnpike. The series is produced by Michael and Carrie Kline of Unity Productions.

The first three CD's of the four-CD set are available through the Rich Mountain Battlefield Association at 304-637-7424.
The first CD, 'Switchbacks and Wagon Tracks' tells about the building of the turnpike. The second, 'Holding Rugged Ground,' covers the Civil War along the turnpike. The third, 'We'd All Be Millionaires If We Had It Now,' is about reconstruction and the industrial revolution."
